Week 1: Foundations of Fitness
Meet our professional coaches and get familiar with the movements you’ll be using in CrossFit group classes. Tale a tour of the Barbell Club and begin getting familiar with what can be accomplished with the various equipment. Your first week in CrossFit classes, you will do many of the movements you already know — we’re just going to make you better at them. We’ll teach you how to jump, squat, pull, and press with safe, effective technique so you can get stronger and avoid injury. Don’t worry if you need extra time here. Everyone has their own pace, and consistent and proper technique will make a significant difference in your ability to achieve results.
Week 2: Get Into the CrossFit Groove
Chat with our staff about your goals and start attending classes that work for your schedule. Don’t be afraid to show up early, ask questions, cheer on your peers, and socialize after the workout! Our community means the world to us and we want you to be a part of it.
Week 3: Be Ready to Sweat
Congrats on making some new friends! Take in the community and see how it feels to belong to a group of fit-minded people. Your muscles are adapting to the challenges you gave them and you are noticing improvement. We know that sometimes life happens and your normal schedule gets turned upside down. At CrossFit Rye Canyon & Barbell Club you have 24×7 access. When classes are not in session on the CrossFit floor you can do the workout of the day with plenty of space. Or, you can get a training session in at the Barbell Club.
Week 4: Keep Going!
Your base level of fitness has improved and will continue to do so as you stay with it. Just one month of consistent effort and you will start seeing results. We’ll check in with your goals and keep you accountable. Sticking to it, learning how to not over-do it, nutrition, and sleep are all contributors to your success whatever your goals are. Our coaches will help you figure out what “reasonable balance” and “training optimally” mean for you.
Week 8: A Happier, Healthier You
Congrats on your improved level of fitness! Keep it up, begin making some adjustments to any movement modifications you started with in CrossFit. Time to celebrate your new lifestyle of reaching milestones, pushing toward your potential, achieving PRs (personal records), and so much more! We hope you have been enjoying the Barbell Club, we look forward to helping you with your training programs to keep you moving closer to your fitness goals.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How often do you recommend I come to the gym?
In general, if you’re just starting up after a long lay-off, we recommend coming three days/week for your first couple weeks. and do not go all out. You need to be able to recover between workouts. Gradually build to four, then five days a week and increase the intensity. Once you’re up to five days per week, we recommend building in two recovery days per week.
This will change based on your training goals. Our phone app enables following and tracking your workout program and recording any modifications you make.
No matter what you are training for you need to make sure you give yourself time to recover. Recovery is a key to training optimally.
I’m not in very good shape… can I do this?
Yes you can. Whether you are young at heart, or have just completed your 50th marathon, or are recovering from injury or healing a broken heart, whether walking the dog is the only exercise you’ve had in years, or you’re someone training for the Iditarod…We will help you achieve your fitness goals.
With us, your training sessions will be scaled to your capabilities. By adhering to our programming that is included in membership, we are confident you will notice improvements over time.
What will my first time in your gym be like?
Why is your gym more expensive than other gyms?
Our CrossFit memberships are competitively priced. Our Barbell Club is higher priced higher than the large corporate gyms. If you become a member we want you to be here so we designed the gym for a limited membership and invested heavily in top notch equipment normally found only in Division 1 and professional team training facilities. We will teach you the proper way to use the equipment, provide you training programming on our phone app so you will be able to train optimally, and provide tips and incite to help you achieve your fitness, strength, and conditioning goals.
